Many people do not know how to properly hang a door. And they turn to specialized offices that, for a fee, will help solve this problem. But after all, such work can be done independently, without spending extra money and time. And you will have one more reason to be proud of yourself as soon as you see the result of your labors. We recommend getting started.

In order to hang the door, you do not need special knowledge and skills.

How to choose hinges?

Before buying, you need to decide on the direction and quantity of these parts. With double doors, everything is more or less clear. To install them, you will need right-hand and left-hand hinges. With the determination of the direction for a single-leaf door, everything is somewhat more complicated. Stand on the side of the doors that they open into. If the loops are on the right, they are right-handed, if on the left, respectively, they are left-handed.

When determining the number of hinges, consider the weight of the door itself. For a single leaf, three loops are enough. For each leaf of a double-leaf door, no more than two fastening mechanisms will be required. can also be fixed on four loops.

Attention! When buying loops, always open them or ask the seller to do this. Otherwise, you may come across a marriage in the form of a crooked rod.

Types of loops

Modern hinges are made mainly of steel. Brass are very expensive, so they do not justify the money spent on them. It is better to give preference to options from a brass-steel alloy. Higher quality specimens are covered with chrome, which performs protective and decorative functions.

There are several types of loops:

  • Classic. For the front door, they are practically not used, because they cannot fully ensure proper security. In addition, they wear out quickly enough, which leads to sagging doors.
  • With a ball. This type is now the most popular. They are durable due to the use of a special steel ball in the design. It contributes to less friction of the hinge elements.
  • Hidden. Hanging the door on such hinges without special training and certain knowledge will not work on your own. Despite this, such loops are able to provide a high level of protection. It is almost impossible to cut them off, since the whole structure is hidden inside.
  • With thrust bearings. Such loops can be safely called the ideal option. They evenly distribute the weight of the canvas, which ensures the durability of the mechanism. With such hinges, the door will be reliably protected from breaking and cutting.

Attach the loop at the required distance to the end of the canvas. Using a building level, determine the horizon and mark it with a pencil. With a chisel in the place of the future fastening of the loop, it is necessary to remove the top layer of the canvas (along the contour outlined with a pencil). You don’t need to shoot a lot - exactly to the thickness of the loop.

Then you need to attach the canopy to the door leaf with self-tapping screws. For this we use a screwdriver. If there is no such tool, you can use a drill, turning it on slowly. When using screws, holes must be pre-drilled. To do this, it is important to work with a drill with a diameter smaller than the diameter of the screw by 1 mm. Thanks to this, the screw will fit snugly, ensuring reliable fastening of the hinge.

Now you need to mount the door in the box, slightly open it and insert the lower component of the hinge. It should fit snugly into the box. Circle it with a pencil. This sequence must be followed when working with all the remaining loops.

In the circled places of the box, you also need to remove the top layer with a chisel. In these recesses, the lower canopies of the loops will be inserted in the future. It is very important to ensure that the hinge pin is always in a horizontal position. Otherwise, the door will always open with resistance and jerks.

If it is more convenient for you, you can slightly change the algorithm of actions. First, you can fix the lower components, then proceed to install the upper ones.

The washer between the hinge awnings will allow you to slightly “raise” the door. This will help in cases where it opens and closes with effort, the door touches the carpet or scratches the floor.

If there are significant defects on the door leaf at the hinge installation site (for example, cracks or voids), the hinges must be moved. Be sure to displace all hinges on the door.

Sometimes the screw does not fit snugly into the door leaf. This problem can also be solved very simply. Drill a screw, fill the hole with PVA glue and place a wooden dowel in it. When this design dries, it will be possible to re-insert the screw into the drilled dowel.

As you can see, hanging a door is a rather painstaking, but quite feasible task for almost any of us. Knowing some tricks, you can without outside help. And what secrets and useful tricks do you know that will help you hang doors? Be sure to share your comment below this article!
