28.02.2021 Design and interior

So which waterproof fitness trackers for the pool and which smart wristband can go swimming in the pool? For many people looking for a pool-friendly wearer, the most important factor is its waterproof rating.
The Fitbit Ionic, the company's first official fitness tracker, is waterproof, and of course even the Apple Watch Series 3 is prepared for swim tracking. There's a good collection of sports bands you can use in the water without worrying about the watch still counting your steps when you step out of the pool.

We've picked the best waterproof pool fitness trackers along with a bunch of different wristbands we've used with the wristbands to keep the pool alive, a must-have on the shopping list for any water enthusiast. There are many new devices on the way to consideration, which we have mentioned below.

Do you have questions about waterproof trackers that we've included or haven't included? Let us know in the comments below, thank you and enjoy your review.

Best Waterproof Swimming Pool Fitness Tracker

If you want the best, this is, in our opinion, the one to strive for. The Moov Now Smart Waterproof Pool Fitness Tracker is more than just a tracker, it's built-in coaching to offer metrics to improve your swim, not just log it.
Water resistant to 30 meters of use in water, the Moov app has a special swim mode that you activate before leaving the changing room and entering the pool. When you return, you will see feedback on hit type, speed, distance and efficiency, as well as lap times and overall endurance for your pool while in the pool. The only real side to it is that there is no built-in screen to view the data in real time.

If you need heart rate monitoring in the pool, you will have to wait Moov HR Swim, a small device from Moov Now that looks like a floating bottle cap. The bracelet was supposed to be on sale at the end of 2017.

Highly rated waterproof fitness tracker for swimming pool

If you would like a swim tracker to allow you to view your pool data, Samsung Gear The Fit2 Pro gets our respect.
The functional Fit2 Pro still has a gorgeous 1.5-inch curved AMOLED display and now adds up to 5ATM waterproofing so you can take it to submerge in water.
As for swim tracking skills, it will record the usual metrics including lap times, knees, and stroke type. The big thing here is that Samsung has partnered with the Speedo ON swimming platform, giving you an alternative place to analyze and process your data.

When you get out of the water, it is also, in our opinion, one of the most beautiful for the pool to be worn 24/7.

Best waterproof pool fitness trackers for continuous use

If you are happy to spend a little more, you can choose a waterproof smart bracelet, sports watch that will still offer the same fitness tracker features you crave. Here are some of our suggestions that we tested.

While the Flex 2 is no longer the only waterproof smartband you can buy, it is the most affordable option for swimmers.

The Flex 2 is water resistant up to 50m in a pool or ocean and provides five days of battery life, LED lights and fancy accessories to the usual smart activity bracelet and sleep tracking features. It recognizes four main swimming strokes: freestyle, breaststroke, back and butterfly.

Until you get a comprehensive collection of swim metrics, the bracelet will track duration, distance and pace for a basic breakdown. If you're looking for a basic fitness tracker that's good for water, this is a good option.

Like the Garmin Vivoactive HR, the Vivoactive 3 delivers more of the same in the swim tracking department, helping make it one of the best all-around swim trackers out there.

The sports smartband has a 5 ATM waterproof rating, is pressure resistant at a depth of 50 meters, and has a dedicated swimming screen in Garmin Connect that collects distance, time, beat, SWOLF, temperature, speed, speed, and more.
Chroma Display allows you to view real-time swimming data underwater. Unfortunately, there is no free open water swimming support like you will find with the more expensive Garmins. But if you spend most of your time in the pool, then this is a great option.

We weren't completely satisfied with the original Speedo Shine and Speedo Shine 2, so the good news is that the standard Shine 2 now inherits these swimming capabilities.

This requires a £ 10 purchase to make Ray more pool-friendly, but it will buy you swim-specific algorithms that track laps and lengths, as well as distance and calories burned.

Like the original Shine, this second generation tracker can be worn on the wrist or attached to your chests, so it is flexible as well as waterproof. In addition, it has a 5 ATM rating, which means it will survive continuing to dive to a depth of 50 meters.

If you prefer something a little more stylish, the Misfit Ray is well worth a try, but it also comes at extra cost before you get the most out of the rating.

Waterproof: 5 ATM (50m)
Cost: about 4,500 rubles or £ 49.99, misfit.com

Apple's new Series 3 takes full advantage of Series 2 swimming and enhances it with better processor and a cellular connection if you need to make a call between circles. There's also a GPS. Apple pool and open swim tracking are some of the best we've used.

You will get served with a variety of metrics including distance traveled, length, average pace, and it can also be distinguished by a stroke style. While swimming, the touchscreen is inactive, but you can raise your hand to check your progress in real time. The data syncs with the Apple Activity app, but there are several third-party swim apps that support the added swim tracking functionality for a deeper understanding.

The Fitbit Flex 2 was until recently the only swimming fitness tracker in the company's lineup, but it has recently been joined by the Ionic smartwatch. The Ionic takes everything we love about the Flex 2's smooth tracking and raises the ante with a very nice display, allowing you to see real-time stats.

It has five days of battery life, plus tactile buttons so you can start and stop your workouts in the water, so you don't have to worry about fiddling with a wet touchscreen. You won't be able to get the deepest metrics with the Ionic, but it will do the right job for most people.

Spark 3 is a running watch with fitness tracking features enabled. He also has a dedicated swim mode that we regularly use to test against other swim trackers, so we appreciate his sports tracking skills.

There's an amazing body of data here, including miles, speed, length, and SWOLF estimates. You can select pool sizes for accurate scoring, record split times and choose from several training modes including intervals.

There is also a "Goal" mode that offers a great idea of how far your session is along with the extra buzzes if you exceed your expectations. Post-swim analysis is small, but elsewhere it's a solid tracker to swim with.

With TomTom leaving the game wearable, it looks like its final entry on the list, which also means you can pick it up faster.

The French company may have been hijacked and renamed Nokia, but it still makes one of the best fitness trackers packaged in a smart analog watch body and one of its skills is swim tracking.

The Nokia Steel HR smartwatch is water resistant up to 50 meters and while you can't use an optical heart rate monitor in the pool, the automatic tracking software knows when you've jumped into the water and put exercise into your daily routine.

The data is synced to the updated Nokia Health Mate app, and the 25-day battery life means you can hit quite a few sailings before having to turn it back on. We're putting our finishing touches on our smooth trials with the Steel HR, so in the meantime, you can check out our Withings Steel HR review to get an idea of what to expect.

What you need to know when choosing a swimming pool watch

It is necessary to pay attention not only to the comfort of the device, strength and resistance to large shocks, but also to protection from moisture and sweat. Not all sports watches are waterproof. You need to look for exactly the gadget that is adapted for swimming. Some watches say they are splash and drip resistant, but this does not mean that the device can be used when swimming in the pool or the sea. You need to buy a special waterproof fitness bracelet.

At the time of buying you need to pay attention to the IP and ATM standards which indicate how the watch is protected from water.

  1. IP 68 is the best degree of protection against water penetration at a depth of 1 m. The number 6 means dustproof.
  2. 1 ATM or higher means that the watch will withstand 10 atmospheres. But it cannot be assumed that the parameter will call to go down under the water to 10 m. If there is such an indicator, then you can safely wash your hands in water without removing your watch, and not be afraid that drops will get inside. The number 1 means that the watch can withstand 10 atmospheres, but we are not talking about immersion.

Until a few years ago, finding a fitness bracelet or smartwatch for swimming was quite difficult. To date, manufacturers have spoiled us with an abundance of waterproof watches, and this made the choice even more complicated.

Let's clarify right away that completely waterproof smartwatches and fitness trackers do not exist, they all have protection only up to a certain depth and pressure. Therefore, when choosing a companion for hiking in the pool, you should carefully check the level of water resistance or water resistance on the website of the manufacturer of the gadget. You can find out how water resistance differs from water resistance and find a decoding of IP and ATM classes in.

It should also be borne in mind that not all waterproof watches are designed for swim tracking. That is, you do not have to worry about their performance after taking a shower, swimming in the pool, or in the sea, but apart from timing the time it takes you to swim a certain distance, they will be unable to do anything else. And such devices are the majority. There are much fewer gadgets that allow you to get extended data, and there are even fewer devices for professional swimmers.

What is the difference between a swimming pool clock and an open water clock?

Swimming pool smart watch... These gadgets determine which style you swim, as well as how you swim: time, pace, distance, stroke rate and number of strokes during a swim, as well as the number of pools. Moreover, they not only monitor, but also analyze: the SWOLF parameter will show how effective your swimming is. In such watches, the pool length is usually set manually.

Open water watch... Such watches are needed for those who like to swim across rivers, bays, and just long swims in open water. There is no side like in a pool, the push from which a fitness bracelet or watch can fix, and there is no way to manually specify the distance. Therefore, devices for swimming in open water must have a built-in GPS receiver. He will track the coordinates of the swimmer, and then overlay the received data on the map. As a result, you can get your swim route, distance, average and maximum stroke rate.

The best smartwatches for swimming

  • Battery life: up to 18 hours

With each generation, the Apple Watch is becoming an increasingly serious fitness device. Along with improved tracking of activity and heart rate, we have improved opportunities for swimming enthusiasts. But for professional swimmers, they are not suitable, only for obtaining general data.

With built-in GPS, Apple Watch 3 is perfect for both pools and open water. They can automatically determine the start and end of the swim, its route and intensity. Also among the possibilities is the automatic detection of the swimming style, and the division of the distance into 25m, 50m and 100m in the Workout application.

If the basic functionality of the Workout app isn't enough, you can install an add-on app from a third party, such as Let’s Go Swim or Swim.com. They have much more possibilities and settings.

Apple Watch can also track your heart rate while swimming, but water greatly affects the accuracy of heart rate measurements, so you should not rely on these indicators.

  • Weight: 45-47 g depending on the strap
  • Battery life: up to 10 hours with GPS on.
  • Heart rate sensor: Yes
  • GPS: Yes
  • Price: From $ 299.95

The Fitbit Ionic is the manufacturer's first smartwatch, and the second waterproof after the Fitbit Flex 2. Like most watches on this list, the Ionic can accurately measure pool length, distance traveled and swim duration. But, he does not know how to automatically determine the beginning of the swim, the pace and type of swimming, just as he does not know how to calculate the SWOLF parameter.

But it is possible to install additional applications from third-party developers, such as MySwimPro. It allows you to customize your individual swimming workouts for each day and set the length of your pool.

Like the Apple Watch, an underwater heart rate sensor does not guarantee accurate readings. In addition to swimming mode, this watch can track 14 other different sport modes. All information is displayed on a 1.43-inch color touchscreen with brightness up to 1000 nits.

  • Battery life: up to 4 days of use.
  • Water resistance: 50 meters (5ATM)
  • Heart rate sensor: Yes
  • GPS: No
  • Price: From $ 199.95

Fitbit Versa is the third waterproof gadget from Fitbit. Basically, this watch takes all the best from the Fitbit Ionic, with the exception of the GPS module, plus it all comes out in a new design. Versa can track about 20 types of activity, including swimming.

Due to the lack of GPS, for open water it is not the best the best way, and the pool they can record not so many indicators: the number of pools, the duration of the swim, and the number of calories consumed during this time. The heart rate sensor turns off under water, all for the same reason - a large measurement error under water.

The Fitbit Versa has plenty of other features. Here and built-in storage for music, and notifications from a smartphone and support for contactless payments, and even tracking "women's health".

  • Weight: 49 g
  • Battery life: up to 24 hours in GPS mode
  • Water resistance: 50 meters (5ATM)
  • GPS: Yes.
  • Price: Approximately $ 500.

Although the Garmin Forerunner 935 appeared late last year, it is still relevant and can be a serious tool not only for swimming enthusiasts, but also for fans of all other sports.

This watch offers the most comprehensive feature set for triathletes. When swimming, it automatically detects style, length, distance, pace and stroke rate, and measures SWOLF. Suitable for swimming, both in open water and in the pool.

Although the Garmin Forerunner 935 is equipped with its own heart rate sensor, it does not work during swimming, but it is possible to connect an external heart rate sensor, and thus get the most accurate data about the swim. Forerunner 935 is suitable not only for amateurs, but also for professional swimmers. The main disadvantage of this gadget is its relatively high price.

  • Weight: 43g
  • Battery life: up to 14 hours in GPS mode
  • Water resistance: 50 meters (5ATM)
  • Heart rate sensor: Yes, but does not work during swimming.
  • GPS: Yes.
  • Price: Approximately $ 300.

Basically, almost any Garmin watch is well suited for use in the pool. These are the Fenix 5 and Forerunner 935, which we wrote about above. But if you choose something in between a very sporty watch, and more versatile, which will look equally good in the pool and in the office, then the Vivoactive 3 is one of the ideal options.

Like the Garmin Vivoactive HR, the Vivoactive 3 can track most swimming metrics. The watch is water resistant to a depth of 50 meters, and can collect distance, time, pace, water temperature, speed, etc., and also provides a SWOLF indicator. The display allows you to view data directly underwater in real time. Open water swimming isn't supported, but if you're mainly into the pool, the Vivoactive 3 is a great option, as is their music player option.

  • Weight: 79 g
  • Battery life: up to 13 hours in GPS mode
  • Heart rate sensor: Yes (does not work during swimming)
  • GPS: Yes
  • Price: $ 300

The Polar V800 is the direct answer to the Forerunner 935, only at a significantly lower price point. Like the 935, the V800 uses an accelerometer and GPS to track swimming in both pool and open water. It also automatically recognizes swimming style, stroke rate, pace and distance, and rests.

Polar V800 is not only suitable for swimming, but also for most mainstream sports. The built-in heart rate sensor does not work underwater, but it is possible to connect an additional heart rate sensor, for example, such as the Polar H10. In terms of design, the V800 can hardly be called the prettiest of this list, the manufacturer preferred sporting features over style. Also, it cannot be called the newest gadget from this list, because it appeared back in 2014.

  • Battery life: up to 11 hours in GPS mode
  • Water resistance: 40 meters (4ATM)
  • Heart rate sensor: Yes
  • GPS: Yes
  • Price: 130 dollars

The Spark 3 is a multifunctional watch that combines multiple sport modes, 24/7 activity tracking with heart rate measurement, GPS, and built-in storage for 500 music tracks.

Among other things, the TomTom Spark 3 is easy to use and has excellent swimming data. It provides detailed information on speed, pace, laps, and calories burned while swimming.

Spark 3 also allows you to split your workout into sets. During the swim, the gadget will prompt by vibration when you need to slow down, or vice versa, to swim more actively. There is also a Target mode that will give an estimate of the entire swimming session.

In fact, this is not a complete list of smartwatches for swimming. You can also safely include devices such as the Speedo Aquacoach, Suunto Ambit2, Finis Swimsense Live and probably a dozen more swimming watches in this list.

Moov Now is another non-display fitness tracker designed specifically for swimming, although it can also track other sports modes like running, cycling and even boxing.

Since Moov Now was developed specifically for swimmers in the pool, in order to get accurate data, you just need to enter the length of the pool, and the number and frequency of strokes, distance, calories burned, as well as swim time and rest time, the tracker will calculate itself.

Let's summarize

There are a lot of criteria for choosing smart watches or fitness bracelets. First, a lot depends on how accurate and detailed the data you need. With the Garmin Forerunner 935, Polar V800 and TomTom Spark 3, you can get the most out of your swimming data, both in the pool and in the open water. If only the most basic indicators are enough, then you can even opt for the Honor Band 3 or Fitbit Flex 2.

Secondly, the design and style of the gadget plays a significant role. If Apple Watch Series 3 looks equally harmonious in the pool and in the office, then Moov Now won't fit a business suit very well.

And thirdly, price plays a significant role when choosing any gadget. Which of these gadgets would you choose?

Swimming is deservedly considered one of the best views sports, because it allows you to effectively maintain a healthy tone of the body and increase muscle mass... Its indisputable advantages are safety and no risk of injury, so this sport can be practiced even in the presence of any chronic diseases.

To improve the efficiency of classes and track your results, special smart products have been created. We bring to your attention a rating of fitness bracelets for swimming, as well as tell you about the criteria for their selection and the rules of operation.

Features of the device

Outwardly, it is a small bezel that is attached to the wrist. Due to its low weight and tight fit, the device does not cause any inconvenience when playing sports.

  • Indicators of water resistance. Two nuances are important here - the IP protection class (the higher it is, the more reliable protection against moisture ingress is provided) and the ATM value. ATM refers to the unit of atmospheric pressure, i.e. the ability of the device to withstand a certain water pressure (1 ATM rating means submersion to a depth of 10 meters). If you plan to practice only in the pool, then you can choose products with minimal indicators. If you intend to use the bracelet in open waters, including when diving, then it is advisable to purchase models with high values;
  • Operating system used, processor characteristics, as well as the ability to synchronize with smartphones;
  • Availability of useful functions. The simplest specimens provide distance counting, monitor the change in heart rate, and calculate the number of calories burned. Smarter models are also able to count the number of laps of the pool, display text messages received on the screen. mobile phone and information about incoming calls, track the user's location by GPS.

Based on these parameters, we have compiled the top fitness bracelets, with brief overview which we suggest you familiarize yourself with below.

Fitbit Flex 2

The tracker has been specially designed for use in the pool. Information about the time spent in the water and the distance traveled is transmitted through the LED display.

Equipped with automatic exercise recognition functions, so it can be used not only when swimming. There is also an option to track notifications of incoming SMS messages and calls.

Garmin Vivosmart

Deservedly included in the rating of the best fitness bracelets, as it retains its performance at a depth of 50 meters. Equipped with a smart stopwatch that can count not only the time spent covering the distance, but also recovering from stress. The tracker also counts the number of movements.

Its advantage is the presence of a program that recognizes the correct execution of movements while swimming. Bonus points are awarded for adherence to the technique, which is aimed at motivating the user to develop the correct technique.

The disadvantage is the lack of a heart rate monitor.

Xiaomi Mi Band

I have been using mysku's extensive knowledge base for a long time, but I have never written anything. So this is the first review and possibly the last (there is simply no time to do this). Actually, there were two reasons for writing this review:

  • This product has never been seen here.
  • It turned out that there were no such gadgets in the world at all (well, or I don’t know how to search :-))
Yes, by the way, there will be no analysis, the review is more devoted to the use. Sorry for the quality of the photos and partial blurring - I shot it on the phone with my hands in the light table lamp... In general, everything in order.

Somehow it happened to dilute the daily sitting in the office with swimming sessions in the pool that opened next door, not for sports achievements, but for pleasure. One, two, and slowly got involved. Then I wanted to calculate how many pools (50 m each) it was possible to swim in the allotted time. What was needed was simply the most simple and convenient lap counter. If there is also a timer, then it's generally great. I went to look for the most optimal solution on mysku and ali ... and found nothing. Expensive harines with software and a training schedule are useless for an amateur like me. Numerous descriptions of “waterproof” Chinese watches were replete with phrases like “ 100m is only protection against splashes and rain" or "Never press any buttons underwater" etc. Even if there were no such phrases, it was completely incomprehensible whether they could simply be used to count the laps covered.

The choice fell on the hero of this review. The toad was disarmed with an iron argument "Well, there are no analogues", and practically gave up without a fight.
For the sake of fairness, I note that the seller does not send to Russia, so the goods were ordered to the address of a friend in the states, and he has already given it to him on occasion. Therefore, I did not pay for delivery or intermediaries.

A simple cardboard box (AA battery - for scale):

The back of the box hints that it's not just for swimmers ...

And the counter itself is in the form of a ring with an adjustable strap. The only button is behind a rubber shell, you can press it as much as you like under water.

No chargers or batteries. The manufacturer promises at least a year of work from the built-in battery with fairly intensive use. Considering that the lithium CR-2016 takes up almost half of the internal volume, it's quite believable.

The company produces several modifications that differ in color and functionality.

Our hero is a blue Combo.

We fasten the strap to the thickness of the finger. The fixation looks reliable, the strap is made of moderately soft rubber.

We put it on any hand so that it is convenient to press a single button with your thumb. For example, I'm more comfortable like this:

Although it is possible and so

At the moment, the gadget has gone through two workouts in the pool, having established itself with better side... The way of using it couldn't be easier. Just press the single button at the end of each circle. Since there is no time for filming in the pool, I show it in greenhouse conditions.
Before starting the workout, “cock” the ring by long pressing on a single button. The timer is ready to start. Important - at this moment ALL previous values are erased from memory.

We begin to swim, short press, and the timer ran. In principle, you can even see it under the water, but you don't need to look at it at all. At the end of each circle - we press the button, without looking, the fixation of the button is good. At the same time, the number of the circle is shown on the display for a few seconds - it is quite enough to take a glimpse, if you are curious. For example, after completing the second round:

And so on until the end of the workout. After fixing the last lap, you can enter the training results display mode. Then we return to the first pair and so on in a circle.
You cannot turn off the gadget, it turns itself off after 30 minutes of inactivity. Pressing the button then shows the latest results again.

As it should be:
pros: maximum simplicity and ease of use
Minuses: price (although each has its own toad), add. delivery efforts.
