Sea resorts near Rome. The best beaches around Rome. Gaeta - attractions, beaches and magnificent nature

The town of Lido di Ostia is a suburb of Rome, where the blue-blue Tyrrhenian Sea is.

Everyone knows that the Tyrrhenian Sea is located near Rome, but not everyone knows how to get to it.
And getting there is very easy. Half an hour by train - and you are already on the beach. Agree that 25 km is not far at all. These are the nearest beaches. You can, of course, go further, but that is another story and another trip.
I'll tell you where and how, while in Rome, we went.

One morning, tired of the bustle of Rome, we decided to take a little rest and unwind, and the best rest, as you know, is the sea.

Having found out from the owner of the apartment where we lived, in which direction and on what we should go, taking a couple of sandwiches with him on his advice, although it was possible not to take them, the cafes worked, the coffee was delicious and cheap, the food was also tasty and very cheap, because it is not the season, we went on a trip to the Stella Polare stop.
George warned us right away that this beach is not exactly touristy, not glamorous. It's quiet and calm there. Italian families with children come there to rest. There are no discos, but for that the sea is not far from Rome.

On the metro line B (blue line) we got to the Piramida station. There is a train station or station from which commuter trains or metro depart towards Cristoforo Colombo. They got on the train, and they run quite often, every half an hour, and sped off towards the Tyrrhenian Sea.
By the way, these trains operate city travel cards. Well, if you don’t have one, then you can buy it right there, at the station.

The town of Lido di Ostia.
Small, pleasant. Many come from Rome. We met local residents in the town, mostly elderly. They sat at tables in front of the cafe, on benches, walked along the seashore.
But there were a lot of people on the beach. Many came from Rome.
The weather at sea was not the warmest due to the strong wind, but this did not bother some at all. Therefore, the contrast was striking: some walked in winter down jackets, while others boldly sunbathed. Among the brave were children. They even ran into the water.

Advice: if you arrive at Fiumicino airport in the evening or at night, you can spend the night in a hotel in Ostia.

Road to the sea

In the region of Lazio, not far from Rome, there are many beautiful seaside towns and villages. Just a short drive from the bustling capital of Italy and you are in a beautiful seaside resort! So a trip to the Eternal City with excursions and active sightseeing can be easily diluted with a lazy beach holiday on the coast.

For reference: Last year, the Italian Association of Ecology and Tourism "la Fee" awarded the highest quality rating ("Bandiera Blu" - a mark of impeccable quality of the sea and beach) to five beaches in the Lazio region. The list includes Anzio, Sabaudia, Sperlonga, San Felice Circeo, Ventotene, an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea. So, today we will tell you how and where to go from Rome to the sea. The closest beach to Rome is called Ostia (Ostia lido). 30 minutes by train from the city center (one-way ticket 1.5 euros) and you are there. This is the most popular holiday destination for average Romans, there are many cafes, nightclubs and restaurants. As well as free beaches and inexpensive pizzerias. The Sea of Ostia does not always meet the criteria of cleanliness and ecology, but for the Romans it is the fastest way to escape from the summer heat. Pluses - it is easy to get to Ostia from Rome without a car, everything is available and nearby, you can have a cheap meal in local restaurants ... And, finally, there are also paid beaches with sunbeds, umbrellas and a clean area (entrance to the paid beach 12-15 euros, the price includes a sunbed and an umbrella). How to get there: we wrote here Anzio (Anzio) The second most popular resort near Rome. It is located 60 kilometers from the city, located on a cape, among the Romans it is considered a more prestigious place than Ostia. During the era of the Roman Empire, Anzio was an important port and settlement, it was here that the emperors Nero and Caligula were born. Many historic villas are located here and sea activities are available - water skiing and sailing regattas. From here, ships leave for the beautiful island of Ponza in the Tyrrhenian Sea, and in the restaurants of Anzio you can taste the best fish dishes of Lazio, washed down with white wine from the nearby village of Nettuno. How to get there: You can get there by train from the railway station Termini (Termini), an hour on the road, a ticket of 3.20 euros one way. Travel time 50 minutes.
Sabaudia (Sabaudia) Sabaudia is located 95 km south of Rome, surrounded by the beautiful Circeo National Park. It is known for the fact that every year world celebrities from the sphere of show business and cinema come here to rest. There are good sandy beaches and a special microclimate created by the freshwater lake Paola, which stretches along the coastline for 7 km. The sandy beaches of Sabaudia, long and clean, are equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas.

How to get there: The journey from Rome by car will take approx. 1.5 hours (95 km). There is no train station in Sabaudia, but there are buses from Rome from the Laurentina metro station (terminal station of line B), the schedule is here http://www.cotralspa.it/TrovaPercorso.asp

Sperlonga (Sperlonga)

The distance from Rome to Sperlonga is 115 km. The picturesque place of the Odyssey coast, thanks to natural depressions and rugged coastline, got its name from the Latin word “Speluncae” - depression. A white city with narrow winding streets, panoramic viewpoints, watchtowers, tiny patches of land reclaimed from steep cliffs… Sperlonga is a typical fishing town of the Tyrrhenian Sea, with many bars and restaurants under the blue sky in the fresh air, serving excellent dishes prepared according to the old traditional recipes from the freshest seafood. Attractions here include the archaeological museum and the Caves of Tiberius.

How to get there: from Termini train station take a ticket to Fondi Sperlonga station, from there the bus takes 20 minutes and you are in Sperlonga.

San Felice Circeo

San Felice Circeo - one of the most attractive holiday destinations on the famous coast - is located 100 km from Rome. The city is located at the foot of Mount Circeo, on a peninsula jutting out into the sea. Majestic rocks, cool deep caves and sand dunes are the characteristic features of these amazing places. Water walks through the caves are one of the favorite pastimes of vacationers. Here are the names of only a few caves: Goat Cave (Grotta delle Capre) - next to the beach, entrance from the lighthouse; Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra) - accessible only from the sea and only in good weather, the size of the cave is 300 m2; Cave of the Hanged Man (Grotta dell'Impiso o Impiccato) - entrance from the side of the lighthouse, by the name of the stalactite in the form of a hanged man; Cave of the Bats (Grottadei Pipis trelli) - not far from the city's Acropolis. In clear weather, you can contemplate the Pontine Islands from the shore, which can be reached from the port of San Felice by boat or ferry. The historical center of the city is concentrated at the Tower Dei Templari (Tower of the Knights Templar) and the Baron's Palace overlooking Piazza Lanzuisi. For lovers of nightlife, we advise you to have fun in the most popular discos of the coast, La Bussola and Chez Nina. Scuba divers can see the 1.8 m high bronze statue of Christ that sunk in 1992 at a depth of 18 m. This statue is a new symbol of the city.

How to get there: From Laurentina station (terminus on line B), the Cotral bus leaves for Circeo (San Felice Circeo). Departure is almost every hour, travel time is about 3 hours. Schedule here: http://www.cotralspa.it/TrovaPercorso.asp

Of course, there are no beaches in Rome itself, but since the capital of Italy is still located nearby, you can get to the resorts. After all, the surroundings of the city have direct access to the sea. A real constellation of wonderful places can rightly be considered a resort coast near the capital of Italy. These beaches are often referred to as "the beaches of Rome".

Closest to the capital is a resort called Lido de Ostia. This place is considered the most popular among tourists who want to relax away from excursions on a good beach. This place has other names: Ostia or Lido di Roma. The last name specifically emphasizes its main significance for the city located on seven hills. Shortly before the outbreak of World War II, this city gained its status as a seaside resort, first for the local residents of Rome. At the moment, there are several excellent beaches here, and they are well equipped for recreation, as well as for sports. There is always a large flow of tourists here, who seek to rest in Lido di Ostia. This place is also popular among couples who come to rest with their children, since the beaches located here are the best among the sandy beaches located near Rome.

If you are lovers of peace and solitude, then the resort of Anzio, which is located among the dunes, will be to your taste. This resort merges with the neighboring one - Nettuno. If we take together all the beaches of both Nettuno and Anzio resorts, then we can count as many as fifty-five beaches. At the same time, each of them has its own characteristics, for any tourist and vacationer there is a place to relax to their liking.

For everyone there is that unique and only piece of the sea coast, which will forever leave pleasant and warm memories of the summer days spent in memory. Anzio - the resort differs as an excellent climatic resort of the country. The city is located forty kilometers south of Rome, on the shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The resort town of Anzio was founded by the Trojans after they began to develop the territory of Lazio, and almost at the same time the city was made an important cultural and commercial center of the region. There is a legend according to which the city was founded by Atey, the son of the Greek sorceress Circe and Odysseus. Already from 338 BC, this place became popular for recreation and settlement, but only rich Roman patricians settled here. The city was built up with palaces, and even then the rich built villas on the coast, among the owners of elite housing were: Caesar Augustus, Cicero, Caius Lucretius and others. It was in this town that the famous emperors of Ancient Rome, Nero and Caligula, were born. Sea city port was named after Nero. His villa has been preserved to this day, which reminds of the luxury of those times. In times of the distant past, the resort was considered one of the best seaside resorts. Even about this resort, the ancient philosopher Cicero expressed his opinion, noting that: “I prefer Anzio to Rome!”. Even in ancient times, the city was well developed, the infrastructure flourished: the city had baths, circuses and amphitheaters. And to this day you can see the remains of Roman buildings. The city has a museum Therm. It’s not like Rome, but there are sights here too. At the moment, Anzio is a residential town, small in size, which consists of two parts. The first part is the city itself and its small port, and the second is the tourist area, where all the bars, restaurants, discos, pubs and nightclubs are located. The cleanest sea and sandy beaches, golf courses and tennis courts, diving, canoeing, windsurfing and sailing schools. Sandy beaches are wide, their length is twelve kilometers. As for hotels, the infrastructure is not very developed, as, for example, in the more famous resorts of the country, but the cleanest warm sea, as well as unsurpassed sandy beaches and close proximity to Rome and convenient communication with it - buses, trains, attract a huge number of tourists. For the weekend, even the Romans themselves prefer to go to this resort to take a break from the bustle of the big city, as well as enjoy peace and sea air.

Another resort is located south of the city of Rome - Sabaudia. For Italian bohemia, this recreation area is considered a recreation center. Directors, actors, movie divas and movie stars prefer to relax here. But the prices here correspond to the star rating of the resort. In 2012, the beaches were labeled "Blue Beaches" and lined up with eco-friendly resorts such as Ventotene Cala Nave and San Felice Circeo. These resorts are also located near Rome.

Arriving in Rome in June, you can do without daily trips to the sea. At the beginning of summer, the temperature in the city on the 7 hills (Rome, of course) is 27°C during the day, and drops to 17-20°C at night.

If your or, it’s better to immediately put all beach accessories in your suitcase, otherwise you will have to buy them on the spot. Surviving without water at daily air temperatures of 30 to 40°C is not possible. At this time, even the locals fled the city en masse, trying to be closer to the sea, what can we say about our unaccustomed organisms, raised in the loyal conditions of the middle zone?

After many hours of bus and walking tours, the call of the sea is heard especially strongly. The heat is so exhausting that a sun lounger, fruit juice and warm sea seem to be the ultimate dream and the best reward for all life's labors. But how to get from Rome to the sea? Where to run: on the bus, or to the car rental service? How much money to put in your wallet to have enough for round-trip tickets, entrance to the beach, water, ice cream and other beach pleasures?

Questions - darkness! And the brain, exhausted by the heat, categorically refuses to think about them. Let's not torture him even more: you will find the answers in the article.

All paths naturally lead to Rome. And what roads from Rome lead to the sea?

Where are we going?

Who said that you can't combine lazy lying on the beach and sightseeing? Nonsense!

The main thing is to choose the right beaches, and there are plenty of them around Rome:

  • Anzio. If Lido di Ostia is in first place in terms of popularity, then Anzio is a clear leader in the field of prestige. This beach is located 60 km from Rome. But here all possible beach activities are available to you: sailing regattas, water skiing, boat trips. Trains depart ≈ once an hour from Termini station. It is convenient to buy tickets, to board the train you need to show an electronic travel document (it comes to your e-mail immediately after paying with a card) from the smartphone screen.

  • Not the cleanest, not the most comfortable, but very popular beaches lurk in Lido di Ostia. Why? You can get there for 1.5 EUR and 30-40 minutes. The sea here is calm, the bottom is sandy. Want variety? The ruins of Ostia Antica at your service.

Prices for beach attributes are quite acceptable: 5 EUR - sunbed, 5 EUR - umbrella, 3 EUR - beer from peddlers, 1.5 EUR - in a local store. There are plenty of places for an evening meal: around cafes and pizzerias, prices in which are an order of magnitude lower than in Rome. Free toilets are available, which gives the beaches a special charm.

There are many private beaches nearby. Take out 15-20 EUR from your wallet and all the delights of beach civilization will immediately become available to you.

Daria (Lyubertsy, 26 years old):

“While we were in Rome, we went to Lido di Ostia several times. Beaches are like beaches, it was important for us that it was difficult to get there quickly and get lost. On weekdays it is quite spacious. But on Sunday I would not advise anyone to go there. Buses run here on weekends in a strange way. Now I'm not sure that they go at all, because before playing pioneers, we waited 40 minutes. Then we couldn't stand it and went on foot with the slogan: "It's not far here." Aha! Naive. Only two hours later we went to some paid beach. But there they reveled to the fullest in order to reward the body for wandering in the 40-degree "heat".

  • Sabaudia. At a distance of 95 km from Rome there are clean sandy beaches of Sabaudia. The road to these parts will take 1.5-2 hours. And upon arrival you will see both the sea and the fresh lake Paola (7 km along the coast - this is no joke to you!).

  • San Felice Circeo. This beach, located 100 km from the Italian capital, will appeal to scuba divers. Only here, descending to a depth of 18 meters, you can come across a sunken statue of Christ 1.8 meters high. Rest at sea can be diversified by walking through the caves, visiting the Baron's Palace and the Tower of the Knights Templar, crazy dancing at local discos.
  • Santa Marinella. 45 minutes from Rome and you are near the beaches of Santa Marinella. There are paid and free beaches, but they are all equally crowded. But the dishes from fresh seafood in the local restaurants are beyond praise.

  • You can drive to these places (115 km from Rome) in an hour. Here you will find a sandy beach, and the "bluest" sea. So blue that even ultramarine. And in between swims, you can look not only at the cafe, but also at the archaeological museum with the proud name "Grotto of Tiberius". The caves of Tiberius are also nearby, it is not a sin to explore them.

Andrey (Yekaterinburg, 39 years old):

“Last summer we were in Rome, went on excursions, watched the city. But the heat was such that one fine day the whole family howled: "We want to go to the beach." Let's go to Sperlonga. There were quite comfortable, clean beaches. Maybe it seemed that way because we immediately went to a private one. We paid about 15 EUR, but all the conditions at once: an umbrella and sunbeds are at our disposal for the whole day.

  • Terracina. The road to Terracina will take an hour and a half. But it's worth going here at least for a day: there are so many sights and pleasures that 2-3 hours is just licking. All kinds of beach activities, water sports, clubs, excursions, restaurants. A resort city in the best sense of the word.

Mikhail (Belgorod, 44 years old):

“When we wanted to go to the sea, we went to Terracina. There are almost no free beaches: everywhere you need to rent a sunbed or umbrella. There are some incomprehensible free "sections of the beach", but there are so many people there that you reflexively want to run away from there. We often dined at the fishermen's cooperative, at the "Gnawed Fish" - very (!!!) delicious and unusual dishes. But I would not recommend traveling to Terracina with children. Especially if the kids love to swim. In some places there is a strong undercurrent, which will carry adults away for one, two or three. There are no signs or warnings, so you have to be careful.”

What are we going to?

Of course, no one will forbid you to rent a car or call a taxi. But is it worth spending extra money on travel when you can spend it on entertainment? Public transport will take you to most of the beaches. A ride on the Roman metro costs 1.5 EUR, on a bus - 1-2 EUR, so it turns out very economically. It remains to decide on the route:

Anzio

The first point is . You can get to it on each metro line, because. at Termini station (which we need) the branches intersect. At the station, you buy a ticket from Roma Termini to Anzio (3.6 EUR) and after 1 hour 10 minutes you are there.

Have you rented a car? Then you will reach Anzio along the following highways:

  • SS207;
  • SS601.

Go down the subway and take the blue line (B) to Piramide station. Did you get off the train? Now up the escalator, the sign "Piazzale Ostiense" will help you. Then turn left following the Ferrovia Roma-Lido sign. Did you find a platform? Fine! Go to the second path (binario 2), get on the train and go! To Lido Centro station!

Sabaudia

Get on the metro at the nearest station on the blue line (B) and go to the terminus (Laurentina). From here there are buses to Sabaudia.

San Felice Circeo

First take the metro to Laurentina station. Get off and wait for the Cotral bus to Circeo, which will take you to your destination in 3 hours. The bus leaves every hour.

Santa Marinella

We will go by train, so first we go to Termini Station. For 6.9 EUR we buy a ticket from Roma Termini to S.Marinello. Travel time is about an hour, then 10 minutes of brisk walking and the sea joyfully meets you.

Again we move aside to the railway station at Termini station. There you buy a ticket from Roma Termini to Fondi-Sperlonga (6.9 - 10.5 EUR). In 1-1.5 hours you will be in Fondi. From there, a bus will take you to the coast for 1 EUR (departure - once an hour).

Terracina

So again we go to the railway station (Termini). But now we take a ticket from Roma Termini to Monte S.Biagio (6.9 EUR, an hour on the way). Not far from the Monte S.Biagio station you will see a bus with the sign "Terracina Mare". You guessed right, you are right there. For 1 EUR you buy a ticket from the driver and after 15 minutes you are already walking along Terracina.

Terracina is an ancient Italian city, where, in addition to gorgeous clean beaches, there are famous springs with therapeutic mud. For those - a complete detailed guide on the route there and back by train, bus or rented car and traveler reviews on independent travel in Italy.

Now do you believe that it is quite possible to organize a beach holiday in Italy? Even if you are in Rome. Even if only 1-2 days can be allocated to the beaches.

So do not tell the children with a serious face that there is no sea nearby. Firstly, lying to offspring is in principle not humane: they declassify the methodology, remember it and begin to use it in everyday life. Secondly, the current youth is only at odds with the history of the Communist Party, but with Google - on you. And the Tyrrhenian Sea, fervently splashing nearby, they will find on Google maps in a matter of seconds.

Better give your children a package of your favorite treat, instructing them to study reviews and choose a resort. And treat yourself to Italian wine in a nearby restaurant. No wonder the Romans say that years, lovers and glasses of wine should not be counted. At least while you are in Italy.

    Rome, Lido di Ostia

Eternal Rome is a city that cannot leave you indifferent. Striking with endlessly changing monuments of all eras and styles. The permanent capital of Italy and the heart of Catholicism. A place where every stone breathes history, the corner of every house screams about how old it is and how much it has seen.

In the traditional sense, Rome is far from being a beach resort. What a sin to hide - to the sea from the capital of Italy at least half an hour by metro. However, it is these half-hours, which, in principle, can separate some outskirts of Barcelona from the Mediterranean Sea, make many tourists think that there are beaches in Rome. And, in principle, they are not so far from the truth. Judge for yourself - a comfortable train leaves for mere pennies (2-3 EUR) from the very center of Rome to the beautiful sandy coast of the nearest beach resort - Ostia.

If you draw an imaginary ruler the shortest line from the center of the Italian capital to the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea, you get a little more than 25 km. And then - both to the right and to the left - kilometers and kilometers of sand, which are divided among themselves by excellent resorts. Most of them offer free public beaches, which are monitored by the municipalities, which means that the entrance to them is free. There are also separate fenced clubs, for the entrance to which you will have to pay 10-15 EUR. As a reward for such “pennies”, tourists will be given a sunbed, an umbrella, the opportunity to use a shower and toilet booth, a DJ and a nice bar where you can order ice-cold white wine on a hot afternoon.

If you draw an imaginary ruler the shortest line from the center of the Italian capital to the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea, you get a little more than 25 km.

So, if you want to go from Rome and the muddy waters of the Tiber to some more azure water to swim, freshen up and even sunbathe, it is best to pay attention to the following three beaches: Ostia, Nettuno and Sabaudia. The first one is the closest. This is not the best coast on the Tyrrhenian Sea, but it is literally under the nose of Rome. The second two are considered both more picturesque and cleaner, but it will take at least an hour to get there. Fortunately, in both cases, the path will be direct, without transfers, directly from Rome Termini Station to Nettuno, or by bus from the Laurentina metro station to Sabaudia. And for a ticket you will have to pay no more than 5 EUR one way.

Staying on one of the beaches for the night is not a bad idea. And Rome, with its magnificent collection, will not suffer much from the one-day absence of a tourist, and the traveler himself will be able to take a little break from the abundance of beauty. But in the season it is better to think about such desires in advance and book a hotel a little ahead of time. Otherwise, there is a high probability of being left without a room, or paying a lot of money for a modest room with a bed - this is a popular destination, and good hotels are sold out like hot cakes.

  • Where to stay: it is most convenient to make sightseeing "forays" around Lazio from Rome. As an option, stay at the miniature thermal resort of Fiuggi.
  • What to see: fabulous Rome, which is good at any time of the year, as well as located in its heart
